How to start a mini agriculture farm?

Farming is heart of living. Many people choose farming as a profession, and many does it for their passion. And some choose their passion for farming as profession. 

People think that farming is possible only if someone has large  acres of land. This is so true with the large commercial farming, where farmers does farming as business on large scale with employers or labours. 

But, agriculture can be started with a piece of land, which is sufficient to grow a crop or plant. Anyone can start farming with just simple initiative steps.

Let's have a look at the general requirements, and the answer to the basic questions, that comes in mind of people when they want to enter in the field of agriculture, and start a farm of their own.

We will also see the steps, that you can implement on your plot as a beginner in agriculture.


What is mini agriculture farm?

Mini agriculture farm is one of the farming type, where an individual or group of people select a particular land for starting a small profitable business in farming. 

This requires little investment on the inputs, like the land, crop or plant to be grown, in maintenance, pesticides, etc.

This type of farming is generally started by people who are new to the world of agriculture and farming. 

Can I start farming with small area of land?

Yes, you can start farming even if you have small space or area of land. You can do this as the basic farming for small business, for passion or for self consumption.

What is the minimum land required for starting mini agriculture farm?

You can start your mini farm with whatever land you have. It is not particularly mentioned for specific size of land. 

Basically, people can do this type farming at their own land at which they live. With a very little space, they can start.

What if someone does not have land? 

Land is one of the most important basic requirement for agriculture. Many people who are willing to do farming, drop their plan just because of the issue of land

Not having a land is not an issue. If you do not have a land of your own, then to start mini farm, you can use an allotted space or buy a land on rent that is pocket friendly to you.

How to start?

To start your mini agriculture farm follow the given steps :-

  • Select a good plot of land: This comes at the priority when you want to start agriculture as beginner. You should have enough space to grow crops or plants. You need to select a plot which is good for agriculture purpose
  • Choose the crop to be grown: Select the plant or crop to be grown. As you are starting in small area, choose a single crop type or plant type. As per the size of your land select the plant or crop, because some plant can be grown in little space, but some need more space to grow. 

  • Prepare the land: Before sowing your seeds, prepare the soil well. Make the top soil fertile, by the use of tractors, fertilizers, etc. A fertile land help your seeds to grow well. Organize it according to the selected crop or plant, and the space available to you.
  • Control water: Make some lower areas around the land, so that plants do not get water logged. This is done for those plants, which do not need much water for their growth. Otherwise, enrich your soil with water if the plant needs full water. Water control is very important in plants growth.
  • Use pesticides: Pests control is essential in the process of farming. As you do not have much money to invest in this, you can use organic pesticides or home made pesticides. This is good for your crop and will save your money too. 
  • Check the cycle: Doing farming is not that easy task, with whole lot effort and dedication, it also checks your patience. So, be patient as your crop or plant grows. Make a calendar, making your initial day of start and the time required for the growth. 
  • Harvest: Once the crop is fully grown, the process of harvesting starts. This is the result of your efforts you put. After this your crop is ready to be sold in market. 

Special tip:

For gaining profit with this small business, select the crop or plant, which is demanded in the local market.

Local market is the best place to start the marketing of your productions. This is not only comfortable for you to explore your market, but as you live there, you can know the taste of people easily.
